Build an Inductive Charging Station Into Your Desk or Nightstand

Build an Inductive Charging Station Into Your Desk or NightstandBuild an Inductive Charging Station Into Your Desk or Nightstand Inductive charging is great, and with third-party kits, you can add cases and attachments to your device that let you charge their batteries just by resting it on a charging surface. If you like the idea of inductive charging but don't want to put a charging pad on top of your desk or table, why not build one into the furniture instead?

Over at DragonDevs, one user decided there had to be a way to build the inductive charging pad into his new wall-mounted charging station. He picked up an old PowerMat unit, took it apart to get the important bits, and used a router (you could use a dremel if you have more time and no access to a router) to careve out the perfect space for the insides. He fit the assembly inside, left a hole for the power cable to drop out of the bottom of his new charging station, and covered it over with bondo so you can barely tell it's there.

Check out the video above for a step-by-step, and the link below for plenty of pictures. It's definitely a project, but it's the closest we've seen to a truly inductive charging surface, where you can just put your phone or gadget on it and it starts charging. You could even apply the same method to your desk surface or any piece of furniture for wireless charging goodness.
