BBC Orders Saturday Night Celebrity Gymnastics Competition

LONDON – The BBC said Monday that it has ordered a Saturday night celebrity gymnastics competition show under the working title Let's Get Ready to Tumble and primetime make-over show Your Home in Their Hands.

The U.K. public broadcaster didn't immediately announce a launch date for the shows, but said they were commissioned from its In-House Entertainment development department.

Charlotte Moore, controller of flagship network BBC One, which will air the series, and Mark Linsey, controller of entertainment commissioning, made the announcement.

Let’s Get Ready to Tumble will feature "some of the nation’s best-loved celebrities vaulting, tumbling and flipping head-over-heels to try and win the public’s votes," the BBC said. "The complete amateurs will be given a crash course in the basics of gymnastics before teaming up with the highest-flying, gravity-defying gymnasts from across the globe to tackle never-before-seen, new-to-TV disciplines."

The show has the backing of British Gymnastics, which the BBC said was "ready to turn the nation’s pop stars, actors, news readers and chefs into heroes of the high bars and titans of the tumble track."

Said Katie Taylor, controller of entertainment and events: "One thing’s for certain, you can expect the celebs to be pushed out of their comfort zone in what is probably the most physically demanding show of its kind anywhere in the world."

Meanwhile, Your Home in Their Hands will see home owners hand over their front door keys for a makeover. The catch: the people doing the makeover are not professionals, and the only homes they have decorated before are their own. In each episode, four home decorators will compete for a cash prize.

Judging their work will be interior designer and businesswoman Celia Sawyer. "Anyone who comes on the show and thinks interior design is a walk in the park is going to have a real shock," she said. "Interior design isn't just about painting a wall pretty colors, it’s about listening to your brief and working hard to fulfill it."

Said Moore: "These two new entertainment series reflect the range and creative ambition of In-House. Your Home in Their Hands will see BBC One indulge viewers’ passion for home decoration, something we’ve not explored on the channel in recent years. And Let’s Get Ready to Tumble will see brave celebrity contestants sign up to the toughest live Saturday night TV challenge yet!"

BBC Worldwide, the commercial arm of the public broadcaster, has invested in both series.
